Hydraulic Schematic

Our larger or heavy duty floor access covers are recommended to be hydraulically operated. Hydraulic cylinders provide a higher power to size ratio to electric actuators therefore cyliners can fit into smaller installed spaces.

Any Surespan access cover can be designed as a hydraulically operated unit, however it is more practical for larger and heavier access covers. The access cover is designed and supplied with hydraulic cylinders fitted between the coaming frame and the underside of the lid.

In general we use single action pushing units to open the cover but they may be designed as double acting if the geometry of the cover dictates the need. Whilst each unit is individual, our entry level, standard configuration of cover consists of;

• Hydraulic cylinders operated by a manual hand pump. The hand pump is generally portable with a quick release connection point at the top of the lid via our locking box unit.

• Our electro hydraulic units have an additional small electrically driven pump and control unit that allows push button or key switch operation of the access cover. The unit is supplied generally in an enclosure for floor mounting depending on the size of the tank assembly. It is also supplied with electrical starting control and associated electrical control gear.

These arrangements are common for single covers. For multiple access cover applications and depending on the location of each cover, a central control point and centralised hydraulic pack can be supplied to operate multiple covers. This should be discussed at the initial stage of enquiry.

Non-Slip surface coating

Surespan floor access covers can be manufactured using calcined bauxite, a special surfacing material which has been independantly tested and proven to provide high friction contact. It has been specially developed to provide an aesethically pleasing, high durable surface.

Suregrip is available in on any size floor access cover and can be customized for any application, logo or signature which can be provided in a range of colours.
